Tanvi Parulkar | b.1998
Tanvi is a visual artist and painter based in Mumbai, India. She trained at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, and deepened her interest in image-making and illustration during an exchange semester at Virginia Commonwealth University, USA. With over a decade of experience in visual design and art entrepreneurship, she brings a developed visual sensibility to a fine art practice that is now coming into its own.
Her paintings are conceived as places to pause. Rather than directing interpretation, they invite the viewer to slow their racing thoughts and quietly observe the scenery within, noticing what surfaces. Shaped deeply by her personal experiences, Tanvi’s paintings explore the interior landscapes of the mind: the spaces formed by emotion and memory that resist being put into words. Her work searches for ways to depict experiences that must be felt rather than explained. As someone with a sensitive heart, she has often had trouble explaining her own layered inner worlds, and her art thus became her own language.
Working primarily in acrylics and inks, she builds each canvas in patient layers. Soft brushwork, blurred spaces and moody palettes emerge gradually, and every work remains singular, at times unpredictable. The process is intuitive and unhurried, allowing each painting to find its own resolution.
Tanvi’s approach to mark-making is rooted in a creative lineage passed down through the women in her family, an inheritance of discipline, observation and devotion to the act of making itself.
